Gallery Demonstration, Adelante Gallery
Roni Marsh is a Master Signature Member of the Pastel Society of Oregon,
a Signature Member of the Northwest Pastel Society and the Sierra Pastel Society. She also holds a membership with the Pastel Society of the West Coast and the Oil Painters of America. Her work has won numerous awards on both National and International levels.
The daughter of an artist, Roni learned a deep love and reverence for the natural world from her father. Her early childhood years were spent in Quincy, a tiny town in Northern California. Her teen and college years were spent in Southern California and during this time, she won many awards and scholarships for her art.
Now a resident of Medford, Roni works “Plein Air” as often as possible. She finds the urgency of capturing the fleeting effects of light both demanding and exhilarating. Whether of Pacific Northwest grandeur, powerful Coastal views, Southwestern serenity she strives to allow the resulting spontaneity to come through in all her paintings.
Roni Marsh is currently represented by Adelante Gallery in Ashland, Oregon and the Rogue Gallery and the Piano Gallery in Medford, Oregon.
She also teaches ongoing classes and workshops in Pastel and Oil Painting in Medford, Ashland and Grants Pass.
INSPIRATION
I love the way the light plays across the surface of things. I like to contrast the frailties and vulnerabilities of Nature against her strength and power. With all of the destructive force that Nature is capable of, there is a side of her that gently persists, free of any struggle. There is always a balance between the two. Sometimes I just focus on that balance, on life in quiet repose.
MATERIALS
Although I find pastels and oil paint to both allow for spontaneity, I often will choose pastels if I want to work very rapidly. I love spontaneous brushwork in oils but tend to also get more contemplative when using them. For me the two of them complement each other beautifully. When I am completely focused, the painting process is a completely joyful, freeing experience. If I can share the range of feeling that I feel while communing with nature, I will consider my work to be successful.
